Hampshire Down Sheep Flock

2012-07-31 01.19.21The Aspley Hampshire Down Sheep Flock

was founded ten years ago and has been reliably producing lambs in the top 10% of the Eblex index over the last few years.

All sheep in the flock are category 1(ARR/ARR) and are MV accredited.

The Aspley flock of Hampshire Down sheep is based on stock from the Yarcombe and Kelsey Hampshire Down flocks. Recently the Aspley flock has been further improved by the ram Court Topper from Mr Adams. This ram has enhanced the flock by introducing New Zealand blood, thus improving conformation and length.

Won ‘Best Improved Hampshire Down Flock of the Year’ in 2011.

Hampshire_Downs_Sheep_Ram2One of our rams was selected for the Ram Compare study in which good examples of rams from some of the main terminal sire breeds (including: Hampshire Downs, Charolais, Texel, Suffolk and Meatlinc) are being used with large commercial flocks.  This will give the breeders an idea of how the individual breeds compare in a commercial situation.

Sheep are fed only grass after the initial 10 week period after lambing, giving a fitter more vigorous lamb.

Three of this year’s ram lambs in the top 5. Please refer to the Hampshire Downs website for more details www.hampshiredown.org.uk
